I Got To Put On The Uniform

The Harlem Globetrotters are in town again tonight at the Amarillo Civic Center. As they say back in the day I got to put on the uniform. The uniform of the Washington Generals, I was the celebrity guest player for the Washington Generals. I don’t remember the score, but I had a good time. In the locker room before the game one of the Generals told me the second time we come down the court they’ll pass me the ball so I can go in for a layup. He told me one of the Globetrotters will foul me and that way my family, friends and fans would hear my name get announced. The second trip as planned they passed the ball to me and I’m going in for the layup but no one is covering me. I’m driving in hard and I’m thinking to myself “I’m going to dunk on the Harlem Globetrotters.” Guess what you don’t dunk on the Harlem Globetrotters. I was fouled hard by the woman player at the time. She asked if I was OK. I told her I play street ball and have been fouled harder. I stepped up to the line and made my two free throws and I was subbed out and sat on the bench the rest of the half. At half time they told me to do the same thing as I did in the first half. One of the Generals told me when I go to the free throw line one of the Globetrotters would come up behind me and pull down my shorts when I’m about to shoot. I sink my first free throw and out of the corner of my eye I see one of the ‘Trotters coming up to me while I’m about to shoot the second shot. I’s not concentrating on the basket I’m eyeballing the player. I let it fly and I miss the shot. He reaches up and pulls down my socks. Jokes on me. I can still laugh about it today. I was three for four that day and the uniform still fits.
