If you know me you know I’m a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys. I became a big fan of the Cowboys really by default. We were living in Germany when we were about to move back to the states. The Army was shipping my dad to Amarillo to become a recruiter. I was just getting into playing football and in my thinking at the time, since we were moving to Texas, Dallas is in Texas so I’m a Cowboy fan. The Cowboys had just lost 16-13 in the Super Bowl to the then Baltimore Colts. The last time the Cowboys played in a Super Bowl I went out to Phoenix with $500 in hand to buy a ticket to the game. $500 at the time in 1996 was expensive for a ticket to the game. The average price back then was around $275. So $500 was a lot of money back then. The average ticket cost around $8,000 for the New England Patriots win over the Los Angeles Rams. So paying that much for a ticket makes you a big fan.
If I wanted to go to a Cowboys game now I would pay $500 for two tickets to a regular season game because standing room only tickets are not an option at $65 a piece. What price would you pay to watch your favorite team?
I just saw a Golden State Warriors fan paid more than $101,000 for a pair of tickets to Game Four of the NBA Finals in Oakland. That’s a huge fan. There’s a Game Three tomorrow night when the Warriors will host the Toronto Raptors. Game Four could be the last time the Warriors play at Oracle Arena. The series could move back to the Oracle if needed for Game Six.
