Some rules changes may be coming to the NCAA and the NFL. College football is thinking about giving replay officials a chance to overturn targeting if the penalty can’t be confirmed. The call would be overturned instead of letting the play stand as called on the field. A player that gets a second targeting penalty would have to sit out the next game. Another proposal is making it illegal to attack an opponent with forcible contact from the blind side. Games reaching a fifth overtime be decided by alternating 2 point conversion tries. On kickoffs the two man wedge formation on kickoffs would be eliminated. The football oversight committee must approve the proposals in April.
The NFL is thinking about having a sky judge that can help the officials on the field eliminate obvious officiating errors like the non call on the pass interference in the NFC Championship Game between the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints. The Rams won and went on to play in the Super Bowl.
With Jason Witten coming out of retirement his Monday Night Football gig is open and Jay Cutler’s name is coming up as a replacement.
The Alliance of American Football wants to know what rules Johnny Manziel broke to get kicked out of the Canadian Football League before he’s considered for the league. The San Antonio Commanders have the rights to Manziel because he went to Texas A&M.
