Caprock Canyon State Park has some new inhabitants moving in.

The park near Quitaque has 30 to 50 Bison calves moving in to add to the protected herd, to help repopulate the Southern Bison.,

The herd was started in 1878 by rancher Charlie Goodnight and is the last remaining herd that shares DNA with the Southern Bison. The Caprock Canyon herd is also named the official bison herd of Texas.

Park Superintendent Donald Beard, says the bison are a special part of our country and western history.

Visitors and campers are welcome to come out to the park to check out the area and the livestock from a safe distance.
