First Case of Avian Flu Reported In Lone Star State

The first case of Avian or Bird Flu is being reported by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

The DSHS says the person had direct contact with sick cattle and the general population risk of avian influenza does not change.

The service is alerting healthcare providers near impacted dairies to be cautious about potential human cases and readily provide testing and treatment options.

Avian Flu is rarely spread from human to human.

The Centers For Disease Control says this is the second case in the United States and the first linked to cattle and it’s difficult to know the full list of symptoms. However, they do model typical flu symptoms.

The CDC is urging basic simple hygiene, like washing your hands.
